   urriculum
Hideaway  campers are grouped  by  age and gender.
Campers are in groups of 10-12 (no more than 15) and
are assigned a counselor.  Rosters  are given to  each
counselor outlining the group's daily activity schedule
which includes approximately six, 40-minute activities
each day.  Our curriculum is always structured, but in
an  atmosphere that  is  relaxed and fun!  Counselors
take camper groups to each activity, which is headed
by a specialist in that field. There's always something
special to share:  maybe learning Metal Enameling in
Arts and Crafts,  or the Backstroke in Swimming. Our
campers  have  the  opportunity to choose the activity
they most enjoy during "Camper's Choice."  Each day
at  Hideaway  is  very  different  and always exciting!

     Nature Study
Truly a favorite activity among campers, Nature Study
makes use of the natural wooded campsite to develop
an appreciation and knowledge of  wild and domestic

life.  Headed by a Science teacher,  our  Nature Study
Program is always educational and challenging,  and
yet because it is very hands-on, it's always fun!  There
is always something exciting happening on our
nature
trails... maybe the wild turkey has been spotted again,
or maybe someone has caught "Bubba"  the 20"  Bass
that  lives  in the  pond.  In  cooperating  with  Mother
Nature,  conservation and ecology  are  always on the
forefront.  Since  Valley  Forge is nearby,  the interest
for  campers to do as the pioneers  would  have  done
is  certainly  sparked.  Exploring  beautiful woodlands
besides flowing streams,  hiking  through our wooded
trails  discovering nature's  mysteries  make for a truly
    unforgettable summer.

     Sports & Field Activities
Our emphasis is placed on  team and individual athletic
skills; whether it's basketball, baseball, lacrosse, soccer,
or capture the flag.  Although not every camper is a nat-
ural performer, they all can have the  pleasure of learn-
ing   with   others  and  discover  untapped
capabilities
    within  themselves.

   High & Low Ropes Course
One  look  and  it's  easy  to  see  why  it  is  also  called
an Adventures  Course.  Campers are challenged to not
only  solve certain problems  presented to them,  but  to
    also
work together with their group as a team. Together
they  must  uncover solutions  and  ultimately, build  the
confidence and self - esteem needed  to overcome  real
challenges.   Harnessed  with  climbing  gear,  campers
learn to scale trees  40  feet  high,  walk  across  special
traversing  vines,  conquer  the  catwalk, dangling  duo,
and heebie jeebie, reaching the zip line. . . the greatest
reward of all!  The goal is actually “Teamwork” . . . So,
    Let the Challenge Begin!

  Swimming
Water safety is a primary concern of Camp Hideaway.
Our  Red Cross Certified Swim Instructor is  in  charge
of  the  program along  with the aid of additional staff
members.  Each group is assigned a daily  mandatory
instructional  swim  period,  as  well as a recreational
free  swim each afternoon.  Lessons are truly compre-
hensive,  teaching campers  various  swiming strokes
including  water  safety  and  survival  skills.  With all
   expectations  geared   toward
   skill  and  age  levels,
   our
goal  is  to make every camper a  swimmer,  and
every   swimmer  “an  even  better  swimmer,”  while
making  them  feel  truly comfortable with  the  water.
Taught  the  proper way,  swimming can  and  should
   be  a
safe and enjoyable sport for all!

     Arts & Crafts
Whether it's wood  burning  that  interests  you, or the
art of  jewelry making, the  Arts  &  Crafts  Program  is
designed to encourage campers to be creative in their
own  individual way. Campers  are taught  handicrafts

and  are  exposed  to countless  artistic venues  which
are  always  in  accordance to their own  interests and
    artistic abilities.

     Horseback Riding
Riding  lessons  are taught as  an  optional  activity  for
    $30 per  40-minute  lesson
.  We also offer campers the
opportunity  to  join  a  special  “Bar H Riding Unit” for
campers  who  wish to  ride daily.  These  campers are
taught  proper care,  feeding,  and overall grooming of
horses,  care of tack,  and  jumping and  trail riding for
the more advanced rider.  Lessons are held during the
regular  camp  day  right  here at  camp!  So,  whether
your  camper  is a  seasoned  rider or has  never  been
on a horse, our Riding Program tailors lessons to each
rider, exposing campers of all ages to the joy of riding.

     Campsite Challenge
This is teamwork at its best!  Each group finds a special
spot for their very own campsite.  Campers must follow
the guidelines for a clean and safe campsite, lining the
path  to their campsite, having a seat for every camper,
having ample wood supply that must be kept dry, a fire
pit  and a  sign  with  the group's name. Campers  work
together  to  create their “home” at camp and compete
against other groups on location, safety, originality and
effort.  The final reward...  an all-camp cookout at their
campsite  with  burgers,  hot dogs,  and  lots o' smores!

Campsite Celebration

    Drama
“And the Oscar Goes to. . . ”  Every Tuesday,  campers
are   asked   as  a  group   to   perform  in   Hideaway's
Amphitheater.  One  of  the  top  two  causes  of  stress
in adults is public speaking. We hope that by exposing
campers to the art of acting,  they may discover a love
of performing   and  most   importantly, learn   to   feel
comfortable  expressing  themselves  to  an  audience.

     Special Days & Special Events

in an activity together. Some events  include: Carnival
Day, Treasure &  Scavenger Hunt, Talent Show, Swim
Meet, Olympic Day,  Hideaway 500, Renaissance  Day,
Camp  Equestrian Show and many  more! Family and
    Friends are always welcome to
share in the festivities

of  these special days.  Every day is a new adventure .
